Puccis History

Chapter 1 How we got started...

Pucci’s Carpet One, Furniture and Bedding traces its business origins back to the year 1972. But to understand how Puccis got off the ground you have to go back a couple more years to 1970 when Ron Pucci and his father Carl Pucci purchased a small delicatessen at the corner of Main Street and Chestnut Street in Fredonia N.Y.

In the early 70's, Ron was splitting time working at the West Hill Delicatessen and working midnights at Alleghany Ludlum Steel in Dunkirk NY. In 1972, the apartment above the delicatessen needed new carpet. Ron was a young entrepreneur with little money, but a lot of ambition. He researched and with his tax id number from the delicatessen, formed a wholesale business on paper in hope to afford to carpet his upstairs apartment.

That business was Pucci's World of Carpets........

At that time, it was common place for delicatessens to purchase goods at the food market in downtown Buffalo. One day, on the way back from the market, Ron stopped at a carpet wholesaler with his newly printed carpet retailer paperwork. The distributer questioned Ron as a practicing new retailer, but Ron's diligence eventually won over the salesman to let him buy a roll of carpet.

This is where this story changes Rons life forever.....

As Ron is walking out the door, the carpet wholesaler convinced Ron to buy a carpet sample set. Well Ron really didn't want the samples, but he figured he would appease the salesman, since he let him purchase the roll of carpet. So with his fruits and vegetables, carpet roll, and samples in tote, Ron made his way back to Fredonia.

When he got back, he unloaded the produce to the delicatessen, so he could start his carpet installation. He then went back to the truck and looked at the carpet samples. Ron didn't know what he was going to do with them, but had to put them someplace to get them off the carpet roll that he was in a hurry to install. In his haste, he took them out of the truck, and put them in the deli right in front of the meat counter just to get them off the truck. Ron didn't give a second thought to the carpet samples he left in the deli. Over the next couple days, customers would come in and question about the samples. Over the period of the next week, Ron started selling more carpet then lunchmeat!

Chapter 2 Off and Running....

Ron took a chance at his start-up business in the fall of 1972 and Pucci’s World of Carpet was off and running. Ron took the risk and put in his resignation in at the steel plant and opened his new business just down the street from the delicatessen at 50 West Main Street. The early years were not easy but Ron’s hard work and determination eventually paid off.

Soon thereafter, Ron’s wife Michelene, formerly a school teacher, joined the business and Pucci's expanded into furniture. Michelene was instrumental in building the business into what is today. Michelene’s decorating touch helped the business grow at that location for the next 9 years until the couple decided to make a move to their current location at 112 West Main Street in 1981. Together, they then renovated what was an 30,000 sq ft old seed warehouse building and turned it into a showroom for home furnishings. The new building would also be a new home to other new home-related business tenants, such as a paint and wallpaper store, kitchen cabinet store, computer store, bridal shop, among others. Since then Pucci’s has grown at its present location to be the leader in home furnishings in the area. Many renovations have taken place, additions have been built, walls torn down and relationships made.

Chapter 3 Next Generation...

Michael Pucci joined the family business in the early 90’s after he graduated from Canisius College in 1992. With Michael in place, Puccis took strides to become a more well rounded store with a large surge in inventory and the expansion of product line and marketing.

In the mid 1990’s, Pucci’s joined the nation’s largest carpet buying groups, Carpet One. A few years later, Puccis took the business to another level joining the industry leader in furniture, Coop Furniture First, another national buying power. Puccis also made important alliances getting into the bedding business with the top bedding companies in the country. Sealy, Simmons and Tempurepedic are all product mainstays in the sleep shop department. Puccis is also Western NYs supplier of 1-800-Mattresses. The business soon became “Pucci’s Carpet One”, Furniture and Bedding” and encompassed a wide variety of selection and choices.

Todd Schaefer joined the team in late 90’s and took over commercial flooring sales at the store. Todd helped grow the business by expanding into outside sales. Todd currently services the areas of Erie, Buffalo, Jamestown and everywhere else in between. Todd is also services Puccis as our expert of technology as our IT director.

Chapter 4 What makes us work...our Employees.

Puccis would not be in the position its in today if it were not for its valuable employees.

Ray Grant moved to Fredonia in the fall of 1999. Ray specializes in measurements and flooring sales. With the addition of Ray, Puccis added a knowlegdable asset and is the equisential sales professional. Ray is the flooring manager at Puccis.

Chris Kennedy is our long time bookkeeper and problem solver. Chris crosses the t and dots the i’s and makes sure everyone else does too. Chris’s tireless work ethic is a large reason Pucci’s is so successful.

Robin Frazita and Donna Frost are our skilled sales professionals. Both are great assets to the sales floor. They specialize in the furniture and bedding. Robin has been with the company for over 10 years and Donna Frost is a welcomed addition after managing Ehlers furniture formally of Dunkirk NY for the last 40 years.

Jim Schofield, Cody Ericson, and Karl Knappke are our Warehouse Delivery Professionals.

Chapter 5 Product Mix

Flooring:

Pucci’s still has the area’s largest selection of stock and orderable carpet. Carpet will always be the flooring department’s most popular choice; however, consumers’ buying habits have changed at the same time. Consumers now also want to see other choices in flooring and Pucci's has stepped up to the plate. Carpet One has also teamed up with fashion designer Liz Claiborne to bring a more design orientated look to your home in all flooring categories.

Pucci’s Carpet:

Puccis has an overall selection of over 11,000 styles and colors of carpet. Here at Pucci’s we not only offer that huge selection of special order goods but we also have the area’s largest selection of stock carpet for quick installation or pick up.

Pucci’s Wood:

Pucci’s is putting a lot of emphasis in wood flooring this year. Wood is becoming more popular, especially in kitchens and dining rooms. Pucci’s has a fantastic selection of hardwoods and engineered floors imaginable. No matter whether you are looking for, Oak Cherry, Birch, Walnut or Cork, Pucci’s has got it.

Pucci’s Laminate:

Laminates have become very popular with families on the go. This easy maintenance floor can come in any species of wood all at the same price. Laminate flooring also comes in ceramic tile looks at about half the cost. Choose from only the top manufactures in the industry such as Pergo, Wilsonart, Armstrong and Shaw industries.

Pucci’s Tile, Vinyl, and Fiberfloor:

Ceramic Tile, Marble and Porcelain Tile have become extremely popular in kitchens and bathrooms. Pucci’s offers a wide range of ceramic tile from around the world. Pucci’s does stock vinyl and fiberfloor. Most special orders can be received within a week. Technology with these products has come a long way in the last couple years.

Pucci’s Commercial Division:

Pucci’s has become the area leader in commercial flooring. We have a separate division devoted to their customers looking for heavy volume or repeat business. This division has grown to be an important part of our selling mix and we do work anywhere from Erie to Buffalo.

Furniture:

Pucci’s has always been known for sofas, but Pucci’s has grown with a great selection of dinettes, dining room and bedroom furniture.

Pucci’s upholstery:

Pucci’s has over 50 sofa groupings including sectionals, reclining sofas and leather and over 60 recliners available for immediate delivery including Buy One get One Free Recliners at $399

Pucci’s Table Sets:

Pucci’s has been buying up special table promotions that will make your head spin. The dinettes and dining room groups we have in now are price better than they were twenty years ago. Whether you are looking for large dining rooms or small dinettes, Pucci’s has them.

Pucci’s has over a hundred different wallpaper books to order from. Pucci’s window fashions department offers all types of styles such as mini blinds, verticals, valances and more.

Chapter 6 Integrity and Service and guarantees
